Nile Basin International Organization for Water Security (NBIOWS)
Cooperative Water Governance for a Resilient Nile Basin
The Nile Basin International Organization for Water Security (NBIOWS) is a regional institution dedicated to safeguarding the shared water resources of the Nile. We work with governments, scientific institutions, communities, and partners to strengthen water security, promote climate resilience, and support sustainable development across all Nile Basin countries.
Our Mission
To ensure the sustainable, equitable, and cooperative management of the Nile Basin’s water resources through science-based policy, regional collaboration, and practical programs that benefit people, ecosystems, and future generations.
Our Vision
A secure and resilient Nile Basin where water is sustainably managed, shared peacefully, and used to support economic growth, environmental protection, and human well-being.
What We Do
Transboundary Water Governance
We support cooperation among Nile Basin countries through data sharing, joint planning, water diplomacy, and basin-wide agreements.
Climate Resilience & Early Warning Systems
NBIOWS develops drought- and flood-risk management tools, early-warning systems, and climate-adaptation programs that protect vulnerable communities.
Hydrology & Basin Science
We coordinate basin-wide research, groundwater assessments, environmental monitoring, and open-data tools to support informed decision-making.
Sustainable Development Initiatives
We champion equitable water access, efficient irrigation technologies, nature-based solutions, and the protection of rivers, lakes, and wetlands.
Why Water Security in the Nile Basin Matters
The Nile Basin is home to more than 300 million people whose lives, economies, and food systems depend on a secure and stable water future.
Population growth, climate change, and increasing water demand make collaborative management essential. NBIOWS works to ensure that the Nile remains a source of stability, prosperity, and opportunity for all Basin nations.
